There's nothing I look forward to more than our trip to Bonaire every winter. We get to leave the cold and ice and head to paradise. This year in Bonaire the wind was a little on the light side. That being said, I did manage to plane every day for 2 weeks on my 5.9 or 5.3 and 100 ltr Skate. You had to get on it early though as most days the wind would die off by 10AM. The 3 best days of the trip were the first 3 days of the trip. Full power 5.3 all day every day. After that it was usually get up at 7:30 get to the beach at 8am, sail the morning session and come in for lunch. Then proceed straight to the Amstel brights and sangrias. Hanging out on the beach with our family and friends rally make the trip what it is. even without much wind there were smiles all around and nobody wanted to come home.
Love the shots of you sailing with your kids!

They were just absolutely having a blast! They were having a great time holing onto the mast and the foot of the sail and walking around through a tack with me to sail back in. Then taylor discovered the "handle" on teh back of the board and decided it was way more fun to hang on a drag behind the board. A squall came through on day while Taylor was on the board and was were full on planing for a couple runs. She kept saying," do it again!" Can't wait to get them out there again. Maybe in Hatteras in April if we get a few warm days.
ReplyDeleteMike,
ReplyDeleteWe're here now and the wind has been light. Wednesday was the best day so far, sailing in the rain and heavy cloud cover all day. The low tide (very low!) has been hitting us mid-day, so sailing the channel is the only option. Today the wind is light and there's a driving rain. ;(
Yup, once the Caribbean is in this trend it seems to stay for the year. It was like this on our honeymoon 7 trips to Bonaire ago. The year after that, we sailed 4.2/4.7 every day for 2 weeks straight. So I'm hoping history repeats itself for next year. Good luck with the wind. Hope you get some!
ReplyDeleteI love sending the Long Island Posse down to Bonaire..can you send me a video for www.bonairebliss.com
ReplyDeleteForgot to mention the bright side. Only one thing to do in Bonaire when the wind is light . . . eat pastechis!!! Oh, yeah!
ReplyDeleteAh yes, pastechis!!! I had my first one while sitting at the bar at jibe city. Brendan told me to get one from the airport but I couldn't remember what they were called. Yum!!!
